MANILA, Philippines — Nagpaabot ng pakikiramay ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa sinapit ng Filipino-American couple na sina Ryan at Jennifer Ambrosio matapos salpukin ng isang truck na tumatakas mula sa kapulisan sa Michigan.
Ayon sa GMA News, hinahabol aniya ng Michigan Police ang diumano'y nakaw na pickup truck na minamaneho aniya ng isang Angel Melendez-Ortiz nang banggain ang SUV na sinasakyan ng mga Ambrosio.
"The Commission on Filipinos Overseas would like to convey its deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones of Ryan and Jennifer Ambrosio, a Filipino couple from Michigan, USA who perished in a fatal head-on collision while driving at the Lodge Freeway in Farmington," banggit ng CFO sa isang pahayag, Biyernes.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families during this untimely tragedy, especially to the six children of Ryan and Jennifer who are still in their tender ages."
Ang CFO ay ahensya ng gobyerno na umaasikaso sa mga migranteng Pilipino, marriage migrants, au pairs, at US J-1 visa holders na hindi overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Sinasabing tumatakbo ang naturang trak nang 100 kilometro kada oras bago sumalpok sa sasakyan ng mga Ambrioso, sapat para mauwi sa agaran nilang pagkamatay.
Kasalukuyang nasa ospital si Melendez-Ortiz at haharap sa dalawang counts ng second-degree murder.
"These are senseless deaths, and I have authorized the highest possible charges for this crime," wika ni Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.
"We will pursue justice for these victims and their entire family, including their young children, and we will hold this defendant accountable."
Ang second degree murder ay isang felony offense at maaaring ikakulong ng life imprisonment.
Bukod pa ito sa reklamong first degree fleeing and eluding police causing death, dalawang count ng reckless driving causing death at dalawang counts ng operating vehicle with license suspended/revoked/denied causing death.
