MANILA, Philippines — Bagama't kumokonti na nang husto ang bilang ng COVID-19 cases sa Pilipinas, umaakyat naman ang kaso ng isa pang respiratory infection sa mga pampublikong ospital — ang pulmonya.

Ito ang ibinahagi ng Department of Health (DOH) ngayong Martes. Bukod sa biglaang pagsipa nito, lumobo rin ang mga batang tinamtamaan nito kumpara noong parehong panahon last year. 

"From January to June 2023, a total of 82,122 pneumonia cases have been reported to rural health units in the country. This is 26.93% higher than the cases reported in the same period in 2022," wika ng DOH kanina.

"Similarly, pneumonia cases in children under-five years are 11.13% higher this year than in 2022 (34,160 vs. 30,739)."

Malaki-laki ang itinalon ng "first to second quarter" data na ito kumpara sa 5,410 na naitala noong parehong panahon taong 2019.

Paglilinaw ng pamahalaan, nanggaling ang datos sa Field Health Services Information System bagay na sumasaklaw lang sa mga pampublikong health facilities.

Kapansin-pansing hanggang Hunyo 2023 pa lang ang datos na mayroon sa ngayon lalo na't nagsusumite lang ng ng mga numero kaugnay nito kada kwarto (quater).

Noong nakaraang linggo lang nang ibalita ng DOH na 45% ang itinalon ng flu-like cases sa Pilipinas kumpara noong Oktubre 2022.

Ibinabalita ang mga numerong ito ngayong sumampa na sa 4.11 milyon ang nahahawaan ng COVID-19 sa Pilipinas simula 2020. Sa bilang na 'yan, 2,970 ang nananatiling aktibo. Gayunpaman, 66,723 na sa kanila ang namamatay. — James Relativo
