Pondo sa social pension ng mahihirap na senior citizens, dinoble ng DBM

MANILA, Philippines — Dinoble ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ang alokasyon para sa social pension ng mga mahihirap na senior citizens sa ilalim ng panukalang P5.768 trillion national ­budget sa susunod na taon.

Sinabi ni DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, na naglaan sila ng P49.81 billion para sa social pension ng mahihirap na senior citizen sa 2024, doble ito sa P25.30 billion na alokasyon noong 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“The budget for social pension for indigent senior citizens will be doubled to P49.81 billion to cover the increased government monthly allowance of P1,000 for more than four million indigent senior citizens who are not part of the pension system,” ayon pa kay Pangandaman.

Nagsimula ang Social Pension  for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPIC) program noong 2011 sa pamamagitan ng Repubic Act 9994 o ang Expanded Senior Citizen Act of 2010.

Layon ng programa na magbigay ng karagdagang government assistance na P500 kada buwan bilang pantulong sa araw-araw na gastusin ng mga mahihirap na senior citizens at iba pang pangangailangan tulad ng gamot, gayundin para sa mga may kapansanan at walang regular na kita o mga pamilyang tumutulong at walang pension mula sa pribado o sa gobyerno.

Samantala, dumoble naman mula sa P500 ay naging P1,000 ang makukuha ng kada indigent senior citizen matapos na mag-lapsed into law ang Social Pension for Indigent Senior o RA 11916 noong Hulyo 30, 2022.

Paliwanag pa ng DBM, ang budget para sa SPIC progam ay bahagi ng alokasyon para sa social services sector na P2,183 trilyon o 37.9% ng panukalang 2024 National Expenditure Program o NEP.
