Coast Guard ipinadala largest maritime asset matapos 'laser attack' ng Tsina
MANILA, Philippines — Pinalakas ng Philippine Coast Guard ang presensya at operasyon nito sa West Philippine Sea matapos tutukan ng military-grade laser sa Ayungin Shoal sa pamamagitan ng pagtatalaga ng BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701) sa Kalayaan Island Group.
Ito ang ibinahagi ng Coast Guard, Biyernes, bilang tugon sa utos ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at PCG Commandant CG Admiral Artemio Abu ilang araw matapos ang nasabing panunutok ng laser ng mga Tsino sa Coast Guard.
"Shortly after its deployment to the KIG on 28 January 2023, the crew of MRRV-9701 boarded Filipino Fishing Boats (FFBs) in the waters in and around the KIG to advise Filipino fishermen and crew to radio PCG or Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) shore units in the area for any needed assistance," wika ng coast guard kanina.
"As the summer season draws near, the PCG expects the number of Filipino fishing vessels that sail and fish in the WPS to greatly increase."
Taong 2022 nang pormal na ikomisyon ang BRP Teresa Magbanua na siyang tumutulong sa pagpapatrolya ng PCG sa maritime teritory nito. Ginagamit din ito sa humanitarian missions at pagtugon sa safety concerns sa Philippine waters.
Una nang naghain ng diplomatic protest ang Department of Foreign Affairs sa Chinese Embassy sa Maynila, lalo na't nangyari ito sa loob ng West Philippine Sea na saklaw ng internationally recognized exclusive economic zone ng 'Pinas.
Matatandaang kinampihan ng Estados Unidos, Japan, Australia at Canada ang Pilipinas sa naturang insidente alinsunod sa 2016 decision ng Permanent Court of Arbitration na nagpawalang bisa sa nine-dash claim ng Tsina sa South China Sea.
Sa kabila nito, ayaw pa rin kilalanin ng Beijing na Pilipinas ang may soberanyang karapatan sa lugar at nagmamatigas na Pilipinas ang "nanghihimasok" sa kanilang mga katubigan.
Vietnamese vessel nasita
Dagdag ng Coast Guard, saglit pa lang ito sa Kalayaan Island Group ay nakapagtaboy na ito ng mga banyaga na walang karapatan sa mga kontroladong tubig ng Pilipinas.
"Over a week into its maritime patrol of the KIG and its surrounds, MRRV-9701 encountered a Vietnamese-flagged fishing vessel in the waters off Recto Bank (Reed Bank) engaged in long-line fishing operations," sabi pa nila.
"MRRV-9701 issued radio challenges and directed the foreign fishing vessel to leave the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) immediately, deploying Rigid-hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to conduct boarding and inspection."
Agad-agad naman daw umalis ang barkong pangisda ng mga Vietnamese nang makita ang deployment ng RHIBs. Ineskortan sila ng MRRV-9701.
Nangyayari ang lahat ng ito ilang araw makipagkita ni Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian kay Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Andres Centino pagdating sa "military to military exchange and cooperation" upang "makamit ang kapayapaan sa rehiyon."
