Criminal syndicate nag-ooperate sa Bilibid

MANILA, Philippines — Kinumpirma ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na may nag-ooperate nga na mala­king sindikato sa loob ng New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) na kanilang nahalukay sa proseso ng imbestigasyon sa pagpaslang sa mediaman na si Percival Mabasa o Percy Lapid.

“What was disco­vered from the in-depth investigation of Mr. Lapid’s death was the unfortunate transformation of a pillar of justice -- the correction pillar -- into a deep, large-scale and systematic criminal organization,” ayon sa opisyal na pahayag ng DOJ at Department of Interior and Local Go­vernment (DILG).

“And the office is none other than the Bureau of Corrections which controls what the United Nations Office on Crime and Drugs as the biggest mega prison in the world,” dagdag pa dito.

Sinabi naman ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na patunay ng sistematikong galaw ng sindikato ay ang naisukong mga beer, nadiskubreng mga iligal na droga, computers, cellphones, at mga armas sa loob ng Bilibid.

“The centralized purchasing system, a centralized way of doing contraband selling and contraband work within a prison system, I think that itself will tell you that there is a criminal organization lurking within,” dagdag ni Remulla.

Nasorpresa rin uma­no ang mga tauhan ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) nang magtungo sa Eastern Funeral Homes para sa unang awtopsiya sa bangkay ni Villamor, nang ma­diskubre nila ang mga bangkay na nakaimbak doon.

Pag-aaralan na umano ng pulisya at NBI ang pagkakakilanlan sa mga bangkay, kung paano sila namatay at ang dahilan o pangyayari ng kanilang kamatayan.

Dahil sa mga pagkakatuklas na ito, sinabi ng DOJ na magpapatupad sila ng maraming reporma at palalakasin ang mga mekanismo upang mabuwag ang sindikato at hindi na uli ito mangyari sa tulong ng DILG.
