MANILA, Philippines — Sinopla ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang rekomendasyon ng National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) na ideklara ang isang taong state of national calamity sa buong bansa dahil sa malawak na pinsala dulot ng Bagyong Paeng.

Ginawa ng Pangulo ang pahayag sa panayam ng media matapos dumalo sa isang “situation briefing” tungkol sa naging pinsala ng bagyo.

Sinabi ni Marcos na sa tingin niya ay hindi na kailangang ideklara ang state of national calamity base na rin sa ginawa niyang konsultasyon sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Base aniya sa pagtaya ng DENR, hindi naman malawak ang pinsala ng bagyo bagaman at “highly localized.”

“I don’t think it’s necessary. I came to that conclusion with the... in consultation with DENR sabi hindi naman kasi extensive, very very how do we say, not naman isolated... highly localized ang mga damage,” ani Marcos.

Partikular na tinukoy ni Marcos na labis na na­apek­tuhan ang east coast ng Quezon, Cavite at Maguindanao.

Sa iba naman aniyang lugar katulad ng Visayas, Regions 1 at 2 ay hindi kailangan ang isang national calamity.

“We’re talking about the east coast Quezon, dito sa Cavite, and then Maguindanao. tinamaan pa rin yung Maguinda­nao. So those are areas, it doesn’t need to have, like in the Visayas, there’s no need for a national calamity, for region 1, 2, hindi naman kailangan mag national calamity. I don’t think it’s necessary. I think we will focus better if we stay with the calamity status as we have now,” ani Marcos.
