MANILA, Philippines — Umaasa si Vice President–elect Sara Duterte na isasama sa mga prayoridad na ‘legislative agenda’ ng kaniyang ka-tandem na si incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., ang mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).

“Executive and legislative agenda will be decided between the President and Congress so I hope that will be included,” ayon kay Sara.

Una nang sinabi ni Sara na kapag nahalal siyang Bise Presidente ay isusulong niya na gawing mandatory ang military service para sa lahat ng mga Pilipino babae man o lalaki kapag sumapit na ang mga ito sa gulang na 18-anyos.

Nais ni Duterte na pamarisan ng Pilipinas ang mandatory military service na ipinatutupad sa South Korea, North Korea, Egypt, China, Japan at iba pa.

Magugunita na ang mandatory ROTC program ay ipinatigil noong 2022 matapos ipasa ang Republic Act 9163 o ang An Act Establishing The National Service Training Program (NSTP).

Ang nasabing batas ay ipinasa noong Marso 2001 matapos mapatay si UST student Mark Wilson Chua ng umano’y mga ROTC handlers nito dahil sa pagbubunyag nito ng korapsyon sa ROTC Corps.
