MANILA, Philippines — Inilunsad ng Philippine Navy (PN) ang kauna-unahan nitong missile system sa isinagawang capability demonstration sa Lamao Point, Bataan nitong Miyerkules.
Kabilang sa highlight ng scenario-based capability demonstration ang live test firing ng bagong lagay na Spike Extended Range (ER) Missile Launching System (MLS) at Mini Typhoon Machine Gun System (MGS) ng Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) Mkill ng Philippine Navy.
Sa nasabing scenario ay dalawang spike ER missiles ang pinaputok na pinatamaan ang target na isang sasakyang pandagat na nasupil sa epektibong pagtugon ng air at surface assets ng hukbong dagat.
“The Spike ER missile has a minimum and maximum effective range of 400 meters ang 8,000 meters respectively. It can penetrate up to 1,000 MM of rolled homogenous armor, good enough to destroy small boats and armored vehicles of damage small ships,” ani PN spokesman Commander Jonathan Zata.
Ang Augusta Westland (AW) 109 naval helicopter na armado naman ng 50 calibre machine guns at 2.75 inch rockets ay nagsagawa naman ng close air support sa operating troops at surveillance operations.
