Justice system sagot sa kriminalidad hindi ang death penalty – De Lima
MANILA, Philippines - Iginiit ni Liberal Party (LP) Senatorial bet Leila de Lima na ang pagpapalakas sa justice system ang tunay na solusyon sa kriminalidad hindi ang pagpataw ng parusang kamatayan.
Sinabi pa ni De Lima na anti- poor o kontra sa mga mahihirap ang parusang kamatayan at hindi din ito nagsilbing panakot sa mga kriminal.
Inihayag din ni De Lima ang kanyang pagkontra sa posisyon nina presidential candidates Senator Grace Poe and Mayor Rody Duterte, na hayagang sumuporta sa pagbaballik ng parusang kamatayan sa bansa.
“No empirical evidence anywhere has suggested that the death penalty deters crime. The death penalty should be abolished, not only because there is no correlation between this punishment and crime deterrence, but also its effects are basically irreversible. The State has the obligation to guide any offender to a life of reform and become more productive members of society. Tinukoy din nito ang datos sa Commission on Human Rights (CHR) kung saan lumabas na karamihan sa napatawan ng death penalty ay mga mahihirap at walang kakayahang magbayad ng pribadong abugado.
