MANILA, Philippines - Nakiisa na rin si dating Senator Rene Saguisag sa panawagan na mag-inhibit si Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio sa disqualification case ni Sen. Grace Poe dahil mistulang hinatulan na ito sa deklarasyong isang naturalized Filipino ang senadora.
“I don’t think Justice TonyCarp should continue on the [SET], having sadly and openly prejudged the case. I think he should have waited until all arguments are in before concluding that Grace is naturalized, not natural-born, which Chief Justice Roberto Concepcion defined as ‘one born a citizen,’” ani Saguisag.
Si Carpio ang tumatayong chairman ng Senate Electoral tribunal (SET) na dumidinig sa quo warranto case na inihain ni Rizalito David laban kay Poe.
Sinabi ng dating mambabatas na ang pagiging foundling ni Poe ay ikinukunsiderang natural born citizen alinsunod sa United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), na nagsasabing ang karapatan sa nationality ay pinakakamahalagang karapatan bilang tao.
“Being a ‘pulot’ or ‘ampon’ used to be a traditional vilification modern thought now looks askance at. The UDHR’s Art. 15 says: ‘Everyone has the right to a nationality,’” ayon pa kay Saguisag.
