113 Pinoy utas sa AIDS ngayong 2014

MANILA, Philippines – Hindi pa tapos ang taon ngunit umabot na sa 113 Pilipino ang nasawi dahil sa Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) kaya naman nais ng isang mambabatas na lakihan ang pondo ng gobyerno upang masugpo ito.

"It has become absolutely imperative for Congress to establish highly aggressive new strategies to fight HIV. Every Filipino living with HIV also has to be assured of adequate treatment and long-term care, welfare assistance, and social protection," pahayag ni Cebu Rep. Gerald Anthony Gullas.

Ayon sa ulat ng mambabatas ay umabot na sa 1,052 ang kaso ng mga namatay dahil sa AIDS sa Pilipinas mula 1984.

Dagdag niya na palala ito ng palala mula 68 noong 2011 na umakyat ng 176 nitong 2012 at 179 sa nakaraang taon.

Umakyat na rin ang bilang ng may mga AIDS sa 20,424, base sa pagsasaliksik ng Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry, kung saan 93 porsiyento rito ay nakuha mula sa pakikipagtalik.

"Under the bill, a case-management mechanism will be in place for every person living with HIV. Affected families, including children orphaned by AIDS, will also be afforded ample care and support," ani ni Gullas.

Ang naturang bilang ng mga namatay ngayong taon ay mula pa lamang noong Enero hanggang Agosto at pinangangambahang tataas pa ito sa nalalabing bahagi ng 2014.

Sa kasalukuyan ay pumasa na ang panukalang pinamagatang "An act strengthening the Philippine comprehensive policy on HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support and establishinh the Philippine National HIV and AIDS program, revising for the purpose Republic Act 8504, otherwise known as the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998, and appropriating funds thereof" sa appropriations committee.
