MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that emergencies reported through 911 will be addressed within three to five minutes due to its upgraded response system.

In a statement released on Friday, December 20, Police Brigadier General Warren Gaspar Tolito, director of the PNP Communications and Electronics Services, said the enhanced system uses Next Generation 911 technology, similar to systems used in the United States and Europe.

The system allows emergency responders to determine the caller’s exact location and deploy first responders immediately.

When calling 911, Tolito advised the public to remain calm and provide important details about the emergency.

“Tell the person who answers what’s wrong, then share your name and location. The call handling technology will already be able to catch the contact details and pinpoint the exact location,” Tolito said.

“If reporting a crime in progress, try to observe and gather as many details as possible: number of suspects involved, clothes worn, gender, hair cut or length of hair. If a vehicle is involved, make and color or license plates, if visible, will be very helpful,” he added.

Tolito warned the public ofrisks during the holidays, including traffic accidents, electrical fires, fireworks injuries and medical emergencies from overindulgence.

The PNP also shared the following safety tips to help the public avoid common holiday incidents:

  • Lock all doors and windows, keep lights on even when away, and avoid sharing travel plans publicly.
  • Turn off appliances and Christmas lights when leaving home, avoid overloading electrical outlets and handle fireworks with care.
  • Be vigilant in crowded areas, avoid carrying large amounts of cash and keep valuables secure.

The PNP’s quick-response initiative is part of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Revitalized Emergency 911 project.

The program, powered by the state-of-the-art CORE system from NGA 911 LLC, improves the PNP’s ability to address both urban and rural emergencies effectively.
