Palasyo ikinalungkot ang pagkamatay ni Mandela

MANILA, Philippines – Nakiisa ang Malacañang sa kalungkutan ng South Africa matapos mamatay ang dating Pangulo na si Nelson Mandela.

Inilarawan ni Presidential Communications and Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Sonny Coloma si Mandela bilang "revered world leader" matapos ipaglaban ang kanyang bansa sa pamamagitan ng kapayapaan.

"In death and in life, he will always provide a shining beacon of inspiration to all freedom loving people,” pahayag ni Coloma sa isang panayam sa telebisyon ngayong Biyernes.

Si Mandela ang kauna-unahang black na pangulo sa South Africa na umupo sa puwesto noong 1994 hanggang 1999.

Namatay si Mandela sa edad na 95 kung saan nakilala ang kanyang buhay matapos tapusin ang white minority rule sa South Africa.

Ginawa ito ni Mandela matapos makulong ng 27 taon matapos kasuhan ng pagtataksil sa gobyerno.

"He endured decades of imprisonment with unwavering fortitude and perseverance, affirming that taking the peaceful non-violent path to freedom is one that brings about sustained and enduring fulfillment of a people’s aspirations for full emancipation," papuri ni Coloma kay Mandela.
