OCTA: Philippines COVID-19 positivity rate rises to 19.3 percent

MANILA, Philippines — The nationwide COVID-19 positivity rate increased to 19.3 percent last Saturday with most new cases still in the National Capital Region (NCR), independent monitoring group OCTA Research said.

OCTA fellow Guido David yesterday said cases might peak “middle to late May.”

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday recorded 1,878 new cases.

“19.3% nationwide positivity rate,” David said in a Twitter post. “May 6, 2023 DOH reported 1,878 new cases, 9 deaths (0 in the National Capital Region), 833 recoveries and 10,195 active cases.”

In the NCR, 807 cases were reported while 149 cases were reported in Cavite and 142 in Rizal.

Other provinces and regions with high numbers of new cases reported are Laguna with 90; Bulacan with 70; Camarines Sur, 46; Davao del Sur, 42; Iloilo, 35; Albay, 34; Batangas, 33; Quezon, 33; and Negros Occidental, 30.

OCTA projected 1,400 to 1,600 new cases for Sunday.

On Friday it said that COVID-19 positivity rate in the NCR is expected to reach 25 percent.

80 active cases in Parañaque

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Parañaque City has reached 80, according to the local government.

The 80 active cases as of last Saturday are 15 more than the 65 recorded the day before.

The local government said the most number of active COVID-19 cases came from Barangay Don Bosco with 14, followed by Barangays Sun Valley (13) and San Isidro (12).

Barangays San Antonio and San Martin de Porres have eight active cases apiece while Moonwalk has seven, followed by San Dionisio with five, Merville (five), Marcelo Green (four), Baclaran (three) and Vitalez (one).

Barangays Don Galo, La Huerta, Sto. Niño, Tambo and BF Homes have no active cases.

The city has a total of 58,416 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 57,520 recoveries and 816 deaths.

1,920 Covid-19 cases

Yesterday, the DOH reported additional 1,920 COVID cases, bringing to 4,102,788 the total number of the highly infectious disease in the country.

Of the total number of confirmed COVID cases nationwide, the DOH said 11,408 are active while 4,024,927 have recovered from the disease.

The number of those who succumbed to the infection rose to 66,453.

The NCR posted the most number of new cases in the last 14 days with 5,777, followed by Calabarzon with 2,962 and Central Luzon with 889.

The hospital bed occupancy rate is at 19.7 percent while the cumulative positivity rate is at 13.5 percent.
