Collision kills motorcycle rider
CEBU, Philippines — Police investigators are looking into whether a fatal road collision that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider along Juana Osmeña in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City Tuesday morning was a case of suicide.
Motorcycle rider Gleven Karry Garces, 30, a resident of Banawa, Cebu City, died on the spot after he crashed into a multicab driven by Derrick Trance past 10 a.m. yesterday.
Trance, who suffered minor injury, said he was heading south while Garces was in opposite direction. He claimed Garces counter-flowed prompting him to pull over but the latter allegedly continued and collided with him head-on.
The impact caused Garces severe head injuries resulting in his death.
Michelle Baclayon, Garces’ girlfriend, believes her boyfriend committed suicide by intentionally crashing his motorcycle as he kept repeating how tiresome and stressful his life had been.
In an interview over dyHP, Baclayon said she recently learned that Garces had been drinking, and that they got into a fight the night before the tragedy. Early Tuesday morning, Garces went to Baclayon’s residence in Banawa to supposedly resolve their conflict but instead got into another fight.
They were allegedly fighting while driving towards Juana Osmeña Street in Barangay Kamputhaw. Upon reaching the vicinity of Vacation Hotel, they stopped to avoid being flagged down by traffic enforcers as they were not wearing helmets but her boyfriend sped off after she told him to leave. The next thing she heard was her boyfriend figured in an accident.
