3 bansa naglabas ng health warning vs ‘Lucky Me’ products

MANILA, Philippines — Naglabas ng health safety warnings ang mga bansang Ireland at Malta laban sa isang popular na brand ng instant noodles sa Pilipinas na ‘Lucky Me!’ pancit canton dahil sa mataas na level ng pesticide na ethylene oxide.

Ayon sa Food and Safety Authority ng Ireland, pinare-recall nito ang isang batch ng Lucky Me! Instant Pancit Canton Original Flavor na gawa sa bansang Thailand na may ‘best before’ date na July 20, 2022.

Samantala, limang va­riant naman ng nasabing instant noodle brand ang pinare-recall ng bansang Malta dahil sa parehong reklamo.

Base sa nakalathala sa website ng Department­ of Information nito, ilang batch ng Lucky Me! instant­ noodles na may packaging­ date na hanggang July 22 ang kasama sa recall.

Ang ethylene oxide ay isang mapanganib na kemikal na kadalasang gi­nagamit sa paggawa ng pesticides at disinfectants.

Iginiit naman ng pamu­nuan ng Monde Nissin na walang halong ethylene oxide ang kanilang mga produkto. 

“It is commonly used treatment in spices and seeds to control microbial growth typical in agricultural products.These materials, when processed into seasoning and sauces, may still show traces of Ethylene Oxide,” paliwanag nila. 

Tiniyak nito sa kani­lang mga suki na lahat ng produkto nila ay nakare­histro sa Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at sumusunod sa standards ng US FDA.
