MANILA, Philippines — Patay ang 11 sundalo at limang Abu Sayyaf habang 14 pa sa tropa ng pamahalaan ang nasugatan sa umaatikabong bakbakan sa Sitio Bud Lubong, Brgy. Danag, Patikul, Sulu nitong Biyernes ng hapon.

Sa ulat ng Army’s Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu, kinilala ang mga nasawing sundalo na sina 1st Lt. Rogelio Deligero Jr., Staff Sergeant Jason Gazzingan, Corporals John Manodom, Mark Dexter Montenegro, Rasul Ao-As, Ernesto Bautista Jr., Benson Bongguic, Jomel Pagulayan, Premark Vallecer, Jaydon Usman at Jomar Ninalga; pawang ng 21st Infantry Battalion ng Philippine Army.

Ang limang napaslang na Abu Sayyaf, ayon sa intelligence assets ng mi­litar ay binitbit naman ng kanilang mga nagsitakas na kasamahan.

Nilalapatan naman ng lunas sa pagamutan ang 14 pang sundalo na nasugatan sa sagupaan.

“The entire Armed Forces of the Philippines mourns today and our flags in all military camps around the country will be flown at half mast as 11 Army heroes offered their lives at past 3PM to protect and defend the people of Sulu,” pahayag ni AFP Spokesman Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo.

Bandang alas-3:05 ng hapon nitong Biyernes habang nagsasagawa ng peace and stability operations ang tropa ng 21-IB sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni 1st Infantry Division (ID) at JTF Sulu Commander Major Gen. Corleto Vinluan nang makasagupa nila ang tinatayang nasa 40 bandido na pinamumunuan nina ASG Commander Radullan Sahiron at Hatib Sawadjaan sa kagubatan ng nasabing lugar.

Ang bakbakan, ayon kay Army Spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala ay tumagal ng halos isang oras. Nagawang matangay ng mga kalaban ang anim na R4 rifles, isang K3 squad automatic weapon, isang R4 rifle na may nakakabit na 40 MM grenade launcher at isang handheld radio ng militar.

“The Philippine Army honors the heroism of 11 brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to attain peace and stability in Sulu,” ayon naman kay Army Chief Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay.
