Petecio, Ladon swak sa 2nd round ng WQT

MANILA, Philippines — Kaagad sumuntok ng panalo sina Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petecio at two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medal winner Rogen Ladon sa pag­sisimula ng kampanya ng Pilipinas sa World Qualifications Tournament sa Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Pinabagsak ni Petecio si Andela Brankovic ng Ser­bia sa opening round para umabante sa second round ng women’s 75 kilogram division.

Lalabanan ng pambato ng Davao del Sur sa second round si Tokyo Olympian Maria Claudia Nechita ng Romania na nakakuha ng bye.

Wagi naman si Ladon kay Italian bet Emilio Serra Fe­derico, 4-1, sa men’s 51kg category at haharapin si 2022 Mediterranean Games silver medalist Said Mor­taji ng Morocco sa second round.

Samantala, bigo si Riza Pasuit na makapasok sa se­cond round ng women’s 60kg matapos ang 0-5 pag­katalo kay Venezuelan fighter Krisandy Rios.

Bukod kina Petecio at Ladon, ang iba pang tuma­tar­get ng tiket para sa 2024 Olympic Games ay sina Mark Ashley Fajardo (men’s 63.5kg), Ronald Chavez (men’s 71kg), John Marvin (men’s 92kg), Aira Villegas (women’s 50kg), Claudine Veloso (women’s 54kg) at Hergie Bacyadan (women’s 75kg).

Si Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Felix Marcial pa lamang ang nakasuntok ng Olympic berth sa hanay ng mga Pinoy boxers.
