F4 slot nadagit ng Lady Falcons, Bulldogs

MANILA, Philippines — Nasiguro ng Adamson University ang silya sa semis matapos pigilan ang matikas na hamon ng University of the Philippines upang masikwat ang 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-15 panalo kahapon sa UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament sa Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.

Nagpasiklab si Lucille Almonte na nagtarak ng triple-double na 13 attacks, 20 digs at 10 receptions upang pamunuan ang opensa at depensa ng Lady Falcons.

Sumulong ang Lady Falcons sa 9-4 rekord sapat para angkinin ang silya sa semis.

Tinuldukan ng Adamson ang siyam na taong pagkauhaw ito sa Final Four kung saan huli itong nakapasok noong 2014 sa Season 76 ng liga.

“No disrespect to UP but it’s hard to battle teams which are no longer figh­ting for a playoff spot. They were playing without pressure, that’s why they played well,” ani Lady Falcons assistant coach Rald Ricafort.

Nagdagdag naman si rookie Trisha Tubu ng 11 hits habang may 11 mar­kers din si middle blocker Lorence Toring tampok ang tatlong blocks.

Umiskor naman sina Rizza Cruz at Kate Santiago ng pinagsamang 15 puntos para sa Adamson.

Minanduhan naman ni Karen Verdeflor ang floor defense matapos magtala ng 16 excellent digs at 16 receptions.

“Our first concern was Kate (Santiago) (who sustained a mild sprain in her right ankle last timeout). It’s good that she was able to play this time,” dagdag ni Ricafort.

Nakalugmok sa ilalim na bahagi ng standings ang Fighting Maroons na lumasap ng ikasiyam na sunod na kabiguan para sa 1-11 marka.

Sa ikalawang laro, ini­lampaso ng defending champion National University ang University of the East, 25-5, 25-15, 25-13, para makahirit ng semifinals berth.

Ratsada si reigning MVP Bella Belen na humataw ng 21 points tampok ang 13 attacks para dalhin ang Lady Bulldogs sa 9-3 rekord.
