Philippine boxers sasabak na

MANILA, Philippines — Matapos ang kanilang quarantine period ay sasabak ang mga national boxers sa isang mini tournament sa Ko Samui Island sa Thailand bilang bahagi ng kanilang preparasyon para sa 2021 Olympic Games at Southeast Asian Games.

“Siguro mga last week of March or first week of April pagkatapos babalik na kami sa Mauklek trai­ning camp,” wika ni national women’s boxing team head coach Boy Velasco.

Nakatakda ring lumahok ang national squad sa Asian Boxing Confederation tournament sa Mayo 21-30 sa New Delhi, India, dagdag ni Velasco.

Matapos ang halos dalawang buwan na ‘bubble’ training sa Ins-pire Sports Academy sa Calamba, Laguna ay nagtungo ang national boxing teams sa Thailand para sa kanilang training camp.

Naghahanda sina wo-men’ flyweight Irish Magno at featherweight Nesthy Petecio at men’s flyweight Carlo Paalam para sa 2021 Olympics na idaraos sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8 sa Tokyo, Japan.

Ibinigay ng International Olympic Committee Boxing Task Force (IOC-BTF) kina Petecio, ang 2019 AIBA World Women’s Championship at SEA Games gold me-dal winner, at Paalam ang dalawang Olympic berth.

“Lalong lumakas.ang tsansa natin na masungkit ang gintong medalya,” wika ni Velasco kina Petecio at Paalam na makakasama sina boxer Eumir Felix Marcial, pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena at gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo.

Kasama rin sa Thailand training camp sina Aira Villegas, Riza Pasuit, Marjun Pianar, Junmilardo Ogayre, Rogen Ladon, James Palicte, Ian Clark Bautista at Mario Fernandez.
