MANILA, Philippines — Kumpirmado na ang pagdalo ni Pangulong Rodrigo R. Duterte bilang panauhing panda-ngal sa pagbubukas ng 2018 Philippine National Games ngayong Mayo 19 sa Cebu City Sports Center.

Ayon kay Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, kinumpirma ng Pangulo ang pagdalo sa opening ce-remonies ng PNG sa kanyang pagpapasinaya sa 116th Labor Day Celebration sa Queen City of the South sa IEC Convention Center noong Mayo 1.

Bukod kay Pangulong Duterte, inimbitahan din sina Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Ca-binet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. at Presidential Management Staff  head Sec. Christopher “Bong” Co at 2019 Southeast Asian Games Organi-zing Committee chairman at DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, ayon kay PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

“We are ready. Eve-rything’s in place already. We are expecting an exciting competitions among members of the national team and aspiring athletes from the different local government units (LGUs),” sabi ni Fernandez sa press conference kahapon sa PSC board room.

Ayon pa kay Ramirez, inaasahan ding dadalo sina Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Ricky Vargas, POC chairman at Tagaytay City Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino at iba’t ibang presidente ng mga National Sports Association (NSAs).

Ang taunang PNG na inoorganisa ng PSC ay ang national open championships  iba’t ibang sports disciplines kaya obligadong sumali ang mga miyembro ng Phi-lippine national team na kumakatawan sa kanilang probinsya o siyudad.

Ang Cebu City at Cebu Province ay magho-host ng PNG sa ikalawang pagkakataon, ang una ay noong 1997 sa panahon pa ni da-ting PSC chairman Philip Ella Juico.

Inaasahang mahigit 8,500 atleta ang sasabak sa 22 sports disciplines na paglalabanan sa PNG kung saan mahigit 2,800 medals ang nakataya.

Magbibigay ang PSC ng P5 million pesos sa LGU na magkakampeon at P4 million sa first runner-up, ang second runner-up ay makakatanggap ng P3 million, P2 million sa fourth placer at ang fifth placer ay mag-uuwi ng P1 million.

Kabilang sa mga sports events na gaganapin sa PNG ay  archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, cycling, danceports, judo, karatedo, sepak-takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, triathlon, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball at weighlifting.

Ang gymnastics at rugby football ay gaganapin sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex at International School of Manila sa Mayo 12-16 ayon sa pagkakasunod.
