Wala munang balak magdagdag ang PBA ng bagong team

MANILA, Philippines – Ibinasura ng Philippine Basketball Association ang pagtanggap ng mga bagong aplikante para sa susunod na dalawang seasons.

Dahil dito, sinabi ni PBA commissioner Chito Nar-vasa na tututukan niya ang pagpapalakas ng kanilang operasyon para lalo pang tangkilikin ng mga fans.

Ibinunyag ni Narvasa na may apat na korporas-yong gustong makakuha ng prangkisa ngunit sinabi ng PBA Board of Governors na tatanggap lamang sila ng mga bagong miyembro sa 2018.

“Expansion is up to the Board,” wika ni Narvasa.  “Right now, we’re trying to perfect our system so that every franchise gets maximum value with the available venues.  My commitment to the team owners is to run the league efficiently and make sure every game is fair and square.  At the end of every game, there should be no doubt that the better team won.”

Sa pagtatanggal ng PBA Board sa posisyon ng CEO, sinabi ni Narvasa na ang trabaho niya ay ang ihanda ang liga para sa isang long-term goal.

“First of all, you can’t make a corporation out of the PBA,” ani Narvasa.  “That will involve a major restructuring and going to the SEC.  In the first place, the PBA was conceived as non-stock, non-profit. What we want is to professionalize the league’s operations and you don’t need to make the PBA a corporation to achieve that objective.”

Isang management expert na may matinding financial background, sinabi ni Narvasa na binago niya ang porma ng liga kung saan magre-report sa kanya ang mga designated department heads o directors sa pamamagitan ng kanyang assistant na si Pita Dobles.

Si Dobles ay umaaktong centralizing executive.

“We’re striving to be more efficient and transpa-rent,” ani Narvasa.  “In the past, purchasing was done on a decentralized basis. Now, we’ve centralized the function to take advantage of economies. Pita is our virtual Executive Vice President while the department heads or directors are the virtual Vice Presidents.”

Ang mga department directors ay sina Rickie Santos (basketball operations), Odessa Encarnacion (finance and accounting), Willie Marcial (communications and external relations), Rhose Montreal (marketing and business development, under probation) at lawyer Melvin Mendoza (legal affairs).  Dalawa pa ang bakante sa department directors-- ang para sa social media at crea-tive opportunities and special events.
