Magandang simula ng Pinoy netters

INCHEON, South Korea—Maagang inilabas ng Pinoy netters ang kanilang pangil nang  mainit na simulan ang kampanya ng Pilipinas matapos humataw ng 3-0 panalo laban sa Mongolia kahapon sa men’s team event ng 2014 Asian Games tennis competition na idinaraos sa Yeorumul Tennis Courts dito.

Ipinamalas agad ni Fil-Am Ruben Gonzales ang kanyang husay nang umiskor ng 6-3, 6-2 panalo laban kay Badrak Munkhbaatar sa unang singles match.

Umangat agad ang kalidad ng laro ni Gonzales, beterano ng Asian Davis Cup at SEA Games, ang kalaban nang hindi nito pinaporma ang kalaban  tu-ngo sa magaang na panalo na sinaksihan nina Chief of Mission at PSC chairman Richie Garcia, Philta secretary general Romeo Magat at kapwa task force member at Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas treasu-rer Jay Adalem.

Inangkin agad ni Gonzales ang first set sa iskor na 6-3, bago dinomina ang tenistang mula sa Ulan Bator para tapusin ang laro.

“I was determined to win because to bolster my morale. It’s inspiring to win this game. I happy to play consistent and better my performance in the succeeding games,” pahayag ni Gonzales.

Ang panalo ni Gonzales ay sinundan ni Patrick John Tierro ng ipinoste ang 6-4, 6-2 tagumpay laban kay Erdenebayar Duurendayar sa ikalawang singles.

Nagtulong naman sina Gonzales at Grand Slam veteran Treat Huey nang irehistro ang 6-0, 6-0 pananaig kontra kina Oyunbat Baatar at Sukhjargal sa doubles event upang kumpletuhin ang pagwalis sa three-game tie.

Susunod na makakasagupa ng Pinoy netters ang second seed na Chinese-Taipei. (MRM)
