Magandang pagtatapos asam ng Phl chess team sa Olympiad

MANILA, Philippines - Tangka ng Philippine men’s team ang panalo laban sa 37th seed Canada sa 11th at final round na inaasahan nilang maglalagay sa kanila sa top 20 fi-nish sa 41st Chess Olympiad sa Tromso, Norway.

Tatapusin nina Grandmasters Julio Catalino Sadorra, John Paul Gomez, Eugene Torre at Jayson Gonzales ang kampanya ng Pinas sa biennial event sa pagharap kina GM Anton Jovalyov, GM Eric Hansen, IM Leonid Gerzhoy at GM Bator Sambuev, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Ang mga Pinoy ay nasa  38th-56th place na may 12 points at maaaring malagay sa top 20 kung tatalunin nila ang mga  Canadians.

Haharapin naman ng women’s team ang Belgium kung saan mapapa-laban sina Chardine Che-radee Camacho, Janelle Mae Frayna, Jan Jodilyn Fronda at Christy Lamiel Bernales kontra kina Hanne Goossens, Iuliia Morozova, Wibke Barbier at Sarah Dierckens.

Kabilang ang mga Pinay sa 42nd-56th spot sa taglay na 11 points.

Si Gonzales, ang men’s at women’s team captain at National Chess Federation of the Phl executive director, ang tatapos ng kampan-ya ng mga Pinoy imbes na si International Master Paulo Bersamina matapos magposte ng 2.5 points sa kanyang tatlong laro.

Inaasahang sariwa na ang 62-gulang na si Torre, nasa kanyang Olympiad record na 22 appearances matapos ang tatlong araw na pahinga.

Matapos ang 10 games, si Sadorra ay may 6-points sa 4-wins, 4-draws at 2-losses.
