Wall determinadong ihatid ang Wizards sa titulo

WASHINGTON -- May bagong kontrata si John Wall at may malaking paniniwala na makakamit ng Wizards ang kanilang unang NBA championship na hindi pa nagagawa ng koponan sapul noong 1978.

Sa isang news conference noong Huwebes para ihayag ang kanyang contract extension na isang five-year, $80 million deal, naupo ang Wizards star point guard sa tabi nina team owner Ted Leonsis, team president Ernie Grunfeld at coach Randy Wittman.

Nasa front row ang pamilya ni Wall kasama ang kanyang inang si Frances Pulley na itinaguyod ang kanyang mga anak matapos mamatay ang ama ni Wall nang siya ay 9-gulang pa lamang.

Tinanong tungkol sa suporta ng kanyang pamilya, tumingin si Wall sa crowd at nagsimulang sumagot.

Hindi niya matapus-tapos ang kanyang sagot at yumuko, habang tinatapik ni Leonsis ang kanyang likod.

“I was trying not to look at my mom for one,’’ sabi ni Wall. “She’s the most emotional person. It was like a breathtaking moment, seeing my mom and seeing everything she worked for.’’

Sinabi ni Wall na ido-donate niya ang $1 mil-yon sa charitable organizations sa D.C. area.

Kinuha ni Grunfeld si Wall bilang first overall pick noong 2010.

Patuloy na maglalaro si Wall sa Wizards hanggang 2018-19 season.

“The day we drafted John, we said we wanted to build this franchise with him and around him,’’ ani Grunfeld. “The last three years, he’s shown he’s capable of leading this franchise where we want to go and that’s back to the playoffs.’’

Nagkaroon ng problema si Wall noong nakaraang season dahil sa kanyang tuhod na naging dahilan ng pagkakasibak ng Wizards sa playoffs.
