Liloan port to serve Visayas passengers

CEBU, Philippines —  Another port in the Province of Cebu is set to open this month giving more access to commuters in and out of Cebu and the Visayas.

Pier 88 in the northern town of Liloan, Cebu will start serving passengers not only in Cebu but also other neighboring provinces in Visayas like Leyte and Bohol by the end of May.

Deputy Speaker and Cebu’s 5th District Rep. Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco said the port will provide an alternative mode of transport in Liloan to and from Mactan island and Cebu City and will also help decongest traffic in Metro Cebu in particular the traffic in Mandaue City and Consolacion.

“The Port will significantly cut travel time, alleviating the difficulties of the traveling public from the northern parts of Metro Cebu who commute daily on the way to their respective workplaces in the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Cebu,” Frasco said.

He said this will also serve as an “economic gateway” to neighboring localities of Compostela and Danao City.

Frasco described the development as an “aspiration and goal” for his constituents in the fifth district. He said the port was envisioned to be a mixed-used development serving not just as port but will also feature other establishments like mall, restaurants and other leisure spaces that will generate job opportunities for the Cebuanos, especially in the north.

The project was conceptualized way back in 2015 during his last term as mayor of Liloan and was approved in 2017 during his time as Commissioner of the Cebu Port Authority.

“Pursuing this dream and having committed to implementing this port project for eight years now, it is with heartfelt gratitude and joy to be in the final stages of completing this groundbreaking development for our beloved Liloan and the 5th District of Cebu,” Frasco said. — FPL (FREEMAN)
