Charlene at Tony mapaladna nakatrabaho si Eddie
Big regrets para kay Judy Ann Santos as an actress ang hindi man lamang nakatrabaho si Eddie Garcia, either in a movie or TV show.
In the case of Charlene Gonzales naman, she worked with Eddie not as a co-star but her director in Dyesebel, which was released in 1996.
Lucky he is, ang pagmamalaki namang wika ni Tony Labrusca that he had the chance to co-star with Eddie Garcia in ML (Martial Law), which won him a nomination in the upcoming Awards night ng Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEED), currently headed by Peoples Tonight Entertainment Editor, Ian Fariñas.
In ML, Eddie played a retired metrocom colonel suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Kaya ang akala niya in existence pa ang Martial Law.
Written and directed by Benedict Nique, Tony said, he learned a lot from Eddie tungkol sa acting. He told him that for him, to be able to absorb and play his role well, he should make the most of his eyes.
Which Tony realized is true, as kasabihan nga that our eyes is the window of our soul.
On the other hand, Eddie’s fellow actor in Rainbow’s Sunset, Tony Mabesa, 84, (Eddie’s 90 years old), remembers him na pinaka-punctual among actors he has worked with.
Dumarating na raw ito, hours before the actually shooting, not just to discuss the scenes na kukunan sa kanya with his director, but with the actors na makakasama niya.
Rainbow’s Sunset had Joel Lamangan for director. The film, which was a Metro Manila Filmfest (MMFF) 2018 entry won for direk Joel a best director trophy.
Eddie bagged the best actor trophy in the same event. Tony, the best supporting trophy, and Gloria Romero, the lead actress of the movie, won the award for best actress.
Rainbow’s Sunset, which was adjudged best picture in the same event was produced by Heaven’s Best Entertainment, headed by former child actress, Harlene Bautista.
This was when, together with Eddie, Christopher de Leon, Phillip Salvador, Gloria Romero and former Senator Ramon Revilla Sr., he was honored with a special award bilang isa sa itinuturing na icon ng local showbiz sa katatapos lang na Star Awards for Movies ng Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC).
He remembered that Eddie was in his best element that night, onstage at the Manila Resorts World where the event was held, sumabad siya ng kapirasong awit habang hinaharana ni Martin Nieverra ang mga awardee.
“I will miss him,” ani Pip “Ewan kong magkakaroon pa ng another Eddie Garcia ang local showbiz.
“May he rest in peace,” susog pa ni Tirso.
Samantala, still as active as he used to, dahil marami ang hanga sa kanyang performance as a kontrabida in the running series, The General’s Daughter, naka-feel ng kakaibang achievement si Pip ngayong ganap nang Christian Pastor ang anak nila ng asawang si Lynn na si Bodie, now 33 years old.
Nagtapos ng college si Bodie from no less than the Dela Salle University.
He did appear in a number of films and TV shows. But obviously, mas malaki ang naging hatak sa kanya na mag-devote ng time to serve the Lord.
Their panganay, Teejay, died November of last year.
