MANILA, Philippines — Sina para swimmer Ernie Gawilan at para archer Agustina Bantiloc ang tatayong flag-bearers ng Team Philippines sa outdoor opening ceremony ng 17th Paralympic Games sa Miyerkules sa Champs-Elysées hanggang sa Place de la Concorde sa Paris, France.

“We had several discussions about who will be the standard-bearers at the opening ceremony with the coaches and it was decided among us that Ernie and Tina (Bantiloc) were the athletes to do it,” ani PH Paralympic team chef de mission Ral Rosario.

Makakasama nina Gawilan at Bantiloc sa inaugural day parade sina para track and field athletes Jerrold Mangliwan at Cendy Asusano, para swimmer Angel Mae Otom at para taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin.

“Siyempre proud and happy, of course. Makakatulong nang malaki sa akin,” sabi ni Bantiloc na pasisimulan ang kampanya ng Team Philippines sa women’s individual compound event sa Huwebes sa Esplanade des Invalides archery range.

Simula noong Agosto 11 ay sumalang na sa ensayo sa Nimes, France ang anim na miyembro ng national paralympics team.

Hindi pa nananalo ang Pinas ng gold medal sa pagsalang sa nasabing quadrennial event para sa mga athletes with disabilities simula noong 1988 edition sa Seoul, Korea.

Ang dalawang bronze medals nina powerlifter Adeline Dumapong noong 2000 at table tennis player Josephine Medina noong 2016 ang tanging mga medalya ng bansa sa Paralympic Games.
