Austria tumawid sa Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines - Mula sa paggiya sa Adamson Falcons ay lilipat ng ‘pugad’ si coach Leo Austria sa pagpunta niya sa University Athletics’ Office ng Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Sinabi ni Ateneo athletics director Ricky Palou na magtutungo si Austria sa kanilang opisina sa Abril 1.

Nilinaw ni Palou na hindi si Austria ang magi­ging ba-gong head coach ng Ateneo Blue Eagles.

“He’ll be helping the sports development program of my office, so he’ll be looking at all the different sports, sitting down with program heads and coaches and see what we can do to improve it,” wika ni Palou.

Umalis si Austria sa Adamson matapos ang Season 76 na tumapos sa kanilang seven-year stint na tinampukan ng isang Final Four appearance noong 2012.

Pinalitan siya ni dating PBA star at AdU alumni Kenneth Duremdes sa bench ng Falcons.

Bahagi ng magiging trabaho ni Austria sa Ateneo ay ang paghahanap ng mga bagong players.

“We’ll also ask him to help look around, marami rin namang contact si coach Leo so he should be able to help us in recruitment,” ani Palou.

Sa katanungan kung kukunin ni Austria ang coaching chores para sa Blue Eagles sa mga susunod na taon, sinabi ni Palou na wala ito sa kanilang plano.

“We have no plans for that right now because right now, we’re looking at him helping us improve our different programs,” pagtatapos ni Palou.
