EDITORIAL - Special this for potential that
What does regional police director Marcelo Garbo mean by “potential armed groups?†Garbo needs to be very careful with his terminologies because it is in the opening of one's mouth that a person is known for what he is.
By potential armed groups, did Garbo mean a group of persons who are planning to arm themselves? Or did Garbo mean already armed individuals who are planning to form themselves into a group? What do you really mean, sir, by potential armed groups?
The piece of nonsense is part of an even bigger one, in which a special intelligence task force will be created to monitor these groups for fear they will be hired by politicians in the coming election.
What is so special about monitoring potential armed groups that a special intelligence task force needs to be created on top of the already existent intelligence units and monitoring groups?
Are the potential armed groups already in existence or are they yet to be born by their confused mothers? If they are already in existence, then Garbo must know their whereabouts for him to already start talking about them.
So why doesn't he just go ahead and arrest them instead of going through the trouble of creating a special intelligence task force? In fact, why engage in mumbojumbo when what is needed is action? Why not just shut up and do it?
There is reason to suspect that the noise is deliberate to give the impression that some form of action is being taken when in fact nothing of the sort is happening. A job well done is always seen and proven after the results are seen.
Telegraphing punches is the surest way of failing to deliver them. Police work and law enforcement are not public relations jobs. And even if they are, they need to be done properly just like good PR. Bad PR, on the other hand, is making special of something potential.
