MANILA, Philippines — Over 5,000 jobs are up for grabs for workers displaced by the closure of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), the Department of Labor and Employment reported yesterday.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said a two-day special job fair would be held starting today at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Laguesma said around 126 local employers and six overseas agencies would offer about 5,000 jobs during the event.

The number of jobs to be offered to displaced POGO workers and other jobseekers could still go up, he said.

In the previous job fairs, Laguesma said vacancies offered to applicants were mostly entry-level.

“This time, it will be high-end jobs. Most of the employees of IGL (internet gaming licensees) have background on information technology,” Laguesma said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced job vacancies for 30 client support specialists.

The DMW said those to be hired will man the agency’s contact center in its Makati office.
