La Salle hihigpitan ang kapit sa liderato

MANILA, Philippines — Pakay ng defending champion De La Salle University na pahabain ang ka­nilang winning streak sa anim sa pagharap nila sa mapanganib na Adamson University sa UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament sa UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Muling sasandalan ng Green Archers si reig­ning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Quiambao pa­ra masikwat ang inaa­sam na panalo at palakasin ang kapit sa tuktok ng li­derato.

Tangan ng La Salle ang 8-1 kartada at nasa li­kuran nila ang Season 86 runner-up University of the Philippines na may 7-1 record.

Magtutuos ang Green Archers at Soaring Falcons ngayong alas-3:30 ng hapon pagkatapos ng ba­natan sa pagitan ng Uni­versity of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers at Ateneo Blue Eagles sa alas-12 ng tanghali.

Inaasahang magiging agresibo ang Green Archers lalo na si Quiambao na nagtala ng career-high 29 points nang kalusin ang Growling Tigers sa overtime, 94-87.

Para kay Quiambao ipag­patuloy lamang nilang gawin ang sistema ni coach Topex Robinson at malaki ang tsansa nilang masungkit muli ang korona.

“Kailangan lang namin sun­din ‘yung sistema, hu­wag tayong lilihis,” sabi ng 6-foot-6 forward na si Quiambao.

Subalit aminado ang La Salle na mapapalaban sila sa Adamson na nasa fifth place ng team standings ha­wak ang 3-5 baraha.

“We know that Adamson is one of the best de­fen­sive teams in the league right now. Their numbers are really showing that, you know, they know how to play defense, again a well-coached program,” wika ni Robinson sa Soa­ring Falcons.

Maliban kay Quiambao, inaasahang huhugot din ng puwersa si Robinson kina Mike Phillips at Raven Gonzales.
