Hospital patient shot dead

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A woman confined in a hospital was killed while her mother and two others were wounded in an attack by three men in Dasmariñas, Cavite before dawn on Wednesday.

Chatty Timbang was asleep in the emergency room of the Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas Hospital when the suspects barged in at around 3:10 a.m.

One of the men allegedly shot Timbang several times. A bullet hit the victim’s mother, who was in bed with her.

Police said the assailants also shot Abdul Batua and Nedia Vasque as they were fleeing from the crime scene.

Batua and Vasque suffered gunshot wounds in the arm and foot, respectively, probers said.

The assailants fled on two waiting motorcycles.

Dasmariñas police chief Lt. Col. Julius Balano said one of the suspects, identified as Jericho Regino, 22, was arrested several hours after the attack.

Balano said Regino reportedly admitted his participation in the crime and identified his two companions.

Police are still verifying the motive for the attack.
