MANILA, Philippines — Muling naghari ang Gilas Pilipinas sa men’s basketball at kumolekta ang mga Pinoy athletes ng anim pang gintong medalya sa 32nd Southeast Asian Games kahapon sa Cambodia.

Humataw si naturalized player Justin Brownlee ng 23 points sa 80-69 pagmasaker ng Gilas sa Cambodia sa finals para mabawi ang gold medal na inagaw ng Indonesia noong 2021 Vietnam edition.

Sumipa ng ginto sina Gretel De Paz (women’s 56kg low kick) at Claudine Veloso (women’s -52kg) sa kickboxing at sina Alvin Lobreguito sa men’s freestyle 57kg at Ronil Tubog sa men’s 61kg ng wrestling.

Ito rin ang inangkin nina Trixie Lofranco sa women’s individual anyo non traditional open weapon at Crisamuel Delfin sa men’s individual anyo non traditional open weapon sa arnis.

Hindi na umakyat ang Pinas sa overall standings at naupo sa No. 5 spot sa pagtatala ng 58 golds, 81 silvers at 112 bronzes na mas marami sa nahakot na 52-125-116 medalya noong 2021 Vietnam edition para sa fourth-place finish.

Muling pinagharian ng Vietnam ang SEA Games sa ikalawang sunod na pagkakataon sa hinakot na 135 ginto, 104 pilak at 111 tansong medalya.

Tiniyak ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richard “Dickie” Bachmann ang patuloy na suporta sa mga Pinoy athletes sa 2025 SEA Games sa Thailand.

“We reaffirm our support to our national athletes,” ani Bachmann. “The PSC will continue to work as hard as you train. Salamat sa lahat ng inyong sakripisyo!”

Nagsingit ng silver si kickboxer Gina Iniong (women’s kick light -55kg) at ang women’s cricket team (women’s T10).

Bumuhat ng bronze si weightlifter John Dexter Tabique sa men’s 89kg para sa pagtatapos ng kampanya ng national weightlifting team na nakahugot ng dalawang golds kina Olympian Elreen Ando (women’s 59kg) at Vanessa Sarno (women’s 71kg).

May dagdag na apat na silvers sina John Ceniza (men’s 61kg), Angelina Colonia (women’s 45kg), Lovely Inan (women’s 49kg) at Rosalinda Faustino (women’s 55kg).

Sa taekwondo, sumipa ng apat na tanso sina Joseph Chua (men’s under-65kg), Dave Cea (men’s -80kg), Baby Dessica Canabal (women’s -53kg) at Laila Delo (women’s -67kg).
