Quezon City athletes hataw sa Batang Pinoy

ILOCOS SUR, Philippines — Lumikha na ng alon ang Quezon City matapos humakot ng anim na gold medals sa wushu virtual competition ng 2022 PSC-Batang Pinoy National Finals kahapon dito.

Bumandera para sa QC delegation ni Mayor Joy Belmonte si wushu artist Alexander Gabriel Delos Reyes na nanaig sa male long weapon, 1st set short weapon (juan shu at nandao) at barehand (1st set chang quan).

Nag-ambag din ng ginto sina Zion Daraliay (female tai ji jian at barehand, 24 steps taiji quan) at Gabriel Matthew Cua (male short weapon, 1st set dao shu).

Kumolekta ang mga Big City athletes ng 15 gold medals para pangunahan ang kompetisyon kasunod ang Baguio City na may 13 ginto.

Humugot ang Baguio City ng limang ginto kay Jathniel Caleb Fernandez na dinuplika ni Adrianna Jesse Magbojos ng Sta. Rosa sa archery event.

Wagi si Fernandez sa under-10 boys’ 1440 (1064), 10m (304),15m (243), 20m (260) at 30m (257) at nagdomina si Magbojos sa girls’ 1440 (1298), 10m (345),15m (328), 20m (332) at 30m (293) events.

“Pursigido talaga siyang manalo,” ani Randy Fernandez sa kanyang 9-an­yos na anak. “Pinaghandaan niya talaga ito.”

Sa athletics, ibinulsa ni Mico Villaran ng Bacolod City ang kanyang ikatlong gold sa boys’ 400m hurdles sa tiyempong 57.72 segundo matapos mamuno sa 110m at 200m hurdles.

“Bunga po ito ng aking paghihirap sa training,” sabi ng 15-anyos na Grade 9 student ng Romanito Maravilla High School sa kanyang una at huling Batang Pinoy. “Nagka-pandemic po kasi kaya hindi ako nakalaro sa nakaraang mga Batang Pinoy.”

Nagtakbo naman ang Masbate ng apat na ginto mula kina Prince Charls Branzuela (boys’ discus throw), Courtney Jewel Trangia (girls’ discus throw), Leonelyn Compuesto (girls’ 200m) at Jireh Rance (boys’ 800m).

Nakasingit ng dalawa sina James Rafael Balanlay (boys’ 2000m walk) at Sep Blessee Placido (girls’ 2000m walk) ng Pasig City.
