PSI, Velasco tinanggalan ng pagkilala ng FINA

MANILA, Philippines — Tinanggalan ng swimming world governing body na FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) ng pagkilala ang Philippine Swimming Incorporated (PSI) na pinamumunuan ng presidente nitong si Lani Velasco.

Bumuo ang FINA ng sta­bilization committee para patakbuhin ang day-to-day operations ng PSI.

Inutusan din nito ang grupo na baguhin ang kons­­titusyon ng ilang bahagi ng PSI at magsagawa ng bagong eleksiyon.

“Conduct the proper and necessary amendments of the (PSI) Consti­tution and organize and con­duct a new election,” ayon sa statement ng FINA na ipinadala sa PSI, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) at Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) noong Disyembre 3.

Nilagdaan ang sulat ni FINA executive director Brent Nowicki.

“The FINA Bureau discussed various complaints received by the FINA Office concerning matters of inter alia poor governance principles within your National Federation,” ayon sa FINA memo.

Pinangalanan ng FINA si POC legal head Atty. Wharton Chan, deputy secretary general Valeriano “Bones” Floro, Bases Conversion Development Authority senior vice president Arrey Perez bilang miyembro ng stabilization committee.

Nag-ugat ang lahat sa ilang reklamong natanggap ng FINA kabilang na ang isinumiteng sulat ng isang magulang ng Southeast Asian Games gold medalist noong Hanoi SEA Games.

“For this reason, and as a matter of last resort, the FINA Bureau has confirmed the implementation of a Stabilization Committee, as set out in C 10.6 of the FINA Constitution,” ayon pa sa FINA memo.

Kinumpirma naman ni POC president Bambol Tolentino ang sulat.
