Pinoy Para athletes huhugot ng inspirasyon sa 4 Olympic medalists

MANILA, Philippines — Magsisilbing inspiras­yon ng anim na Pinoy para athletes ang naiuwing apat na medalya nina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz at bo­xers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam at Eumir Felix Marcial sa nakaraang Tokyo Olympic Games.

Nakatakdang sumabak sa Tokyo Paralympics sina swimmers Ernie Gawilan at Gary Bejino, jin Allain Ganapin, wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, discus thrower Jeanette Aceveda at powerlifter Achele Guion sa Agosto 24 hanggang Setyembre 5.

“Definitely, lahat ng ating mga abled-bodied athletes sa (Tokyo) Olympics ay nagsisilbi bilang inspirasyon sa ating anim na manlalaro,” ani Team Philippines Chef De Mission Kiko Diaz kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Online Forum.

“Each and everyone of them continues to be a source of motivation for our delegation,” dagdag pa nito sa anim na Paralympians na binigyan ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ng allowance na $3,000 (P150,000).

Inangkin ni Diaz ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng Pinas nang magreyna sa women’s 55-kilogram division sa Tok­yo weightlifting competition.

Sumuntok naman ng dalawang silver medal sina Petecio (featherweight) at Paalam (flyweight) at nag-ambag ng bronze si Marcial (middleweight).

Hindi pa nanalo ng gold medal ang bansa sa Paralympics mula nang su­mali noong 1988 sa Seoul, South Korea.

Magtutungo ang anim na national Para athletes sa Tokyo sa Linggo.
