MANILA, Philippines — Hindi pinalad ang pambato ng Pilipinas sa boxing na si Eumir Marcial ngunit mag-uuwi pa rin ng medalya matapos magapi ng nakalabang Ukranian sa pagpapatuloy ng 2020 Tokyo Olympics ngayong hapon.

Wagi kasi sa pamamagitan ng "split decision" si Oleksandr Khyzhniak para sa men's middleweight division sa semi-finals, Huwebes, dahilan para makuha ni Marcial ang bronze medal.

Pumabor kay Khyzhniak ang tatlong hurado habang dalawa lang kay Marcial, tanda ng dikit na tatlong rounds ng bakbakan.

Kanina lang nang manalo ang kapwa niyang Pinoy boxer na si Carlo Paalam matapos talunin si Ryomei Tanaka ng Japan para sa men's flyweight (48-52kg) division, dahilan para pumasok siya sa finals.

Ilang araw pa lang nang masungkit ng Filipina na si Nesthy Petecio ang silver medal para sa women's feather (54-57kg) boxing final noong ika-3 ng Agosto.

Dahil dito, tatlong medalya ang iuuwi ng Pilipinas para lang sa larangan ng boxing, bukod pa sa gold medal victory ng Pinay weightlifter na si Hidilyn Diaz noong isang linggo. — James Relativo
