MANILA, Philippines — Sisimulan na ng Philippine national youth team ang kanilang kampanya sa pagbubukas ngayon ng 14th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships sa Ilagan City Sports Complex sa Isabela.

Sasabak ang mga batang atletang Filipino laban sa malalakas na mga atleta mula sa Thailand na nagpadala ng mahigit 50 entries sa kumpetisyon.

Ang ibang malalakas na bansa na kasali ay ang Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore at Laos.

Pagkatapos ng SEA Youth competition, susunod  agad ang 2019 Philippine National Open Athle­tics Championship sa Marso 6 hanggang 8 sa parehong venue.

Kabilang ang mga Fi­lipino-American athle­tes na sina sprinters Eric Cray, Kristina Knott, Kyla R­ichardson,  Zion Corrales at Robyn Brown ang magpapakitang gilas kasama  sina pole vaulters Nathalie Uy at Alyanna Nicolas at  middle distance runner Carter Lily.

Ang mga atletang Filipino ay sasali sa kumpetisyon na sinusuportahan ng Ayala Corporation, Milo, Soleus at City of Ilagan, para mapasama sa natio­nal team na sasabak sa 30th SEA Games ngayong Nov. 30 hanggang Dec. 11 dito sa Pilipinas.

Nakatakda ring lumahok ang Philippine national youth team sa  Asian Youth Championships na gaga­napin sa Hong Kong nga­yong Marso 12-15.

“The Asian Youth in Hong Kong is on March 12 to15 and many of our neighbors are preparing for this. That’s why many countries have athletes who are going there (in Ilagan) before they go home in preparation for the SEA Games,” pahayag ni Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association pre­sident Philip Ella Juico.
