Etheridge sa laban lang ng Azkals vs SoKor sisipa
Si Azkals goalkee- per Neil Etheridge sa isang laro niya para sa Cardiff City FC sa English Premier League.

MANILA, Philippines — Isang beses lang makalalaro si Azkals top goalkeeper Neil Etheridge sa 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup dahil mayroon itong commitment sa kanyang mother club na Cardiff City.

Ayon kay Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president  Mariano “Nonong” Araneta Jr., masisilayan lamang sa aksyon si Etheridge sa oras na makaharap ng Pilipinas ang World Cup veteran South Korea sa Enero 7.

“Neil will be playing in the first game. Of course, we also have to realize that he has also some duties to do with Cardiff (City FC),” ani Araneta sa panayam.

Matapos ang laro, agad na babalik sa England si Etheridge para makasama ang Cardiff City Bluebirds na naglalaro sa English Premier League.

Ang Filipino-British ang kasalukuyang No. 1 goalkeeper ng Bluebirds.

“We know the importance of Neil with Cardiff. So, he plays in the first game then go back to Cardiff. I think we will allow that,” dagdag ni Araneta.

Maliban sa South Korea, makakasagupa rin ng Pilipinas ang China sa Enero 11 at Kyrgyzstan sa Enero 16.

Kaya naman humaha­nap na ng paraan si Azkals head coach Sven Goran Eriksson upang mapunan ang mababakanteng puwesto ni Etheridge.

Kabilang sa mga nakalinyang papalit kay Ethe­ridge sina Filipino-Danish goalkeeper Michael Falkesgaard.

Hindi naman makalalaro ang reserve goalie na si Patrick Deyto na na-dislocate ang kanyang daliri sa kanang kamay at sumailalim sa operasyon kamakailan.
