MANILA, Philippines — Bumandera sina 18th Asian Games campaigners Merwin Tan at Alexis Sy para magkampeon sa 2018 Bowling World Cup (BWC) national championships at makamit ang ka­rapatang katawanin ang Pilipinas sa 54th international finals sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tinalo ng 19-anyos na si Tan, ang Marist School student, si veteran Raoul Miranda, 279-248 at 258-204 para angkinin ang men's title habang dinaig ng 26-anyos na BPI corporate banking employee na si Sy si Dyan Coronacion, 196-180 at 232-178 para ibulsa ang ladies' crown.

Sina Tan at Sy ay mga miyembro ng national team na sumabak sa Jakarta Asiad noong Agosto.

Isusuot nina Tan at Sy ang Philippine colors sa BWC international event sa Sam's Town, Las Vegas na nakatakda sa Nobyembre 4-11.

“I'm so happy,” wika ni Sy.  “I did not expect to overcome the tough opposition because I had short preparation after returning from the Asian Games.  But mom's arrival from Cebu last Thursday inspired me in the finals.”

Matapos pumangalawa sa 24-game qualifying round, tumapos ang reigning Cebu Open at TBAM Open champion na si Tan sa No. 1 sa quarterfinals.

Sinibak ni Tan si Eric Aranez sa semifinals, 235-182, 299-237, 236-200 at itinakda ang kanilang title match ni Miranda, tinalo si Kenneth Chua sa semis, 210-179, 193-191.
