Mojdeh kumuha ng ginto sa Shanghai
SHANGHAI, CHINA -- Humirit agad ng gintong medalya si reigning Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Swimmer of the Year Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh sa 2018 Shanghai Invitational Swimming Championships sa Oriental Sports Center dito.
Bitbit ang matinding determinasyon, inilampaso ng Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Parañaque standout at Palarong Pambansa Most Bemedalled Athlete ang mga karibal nito sa girls’ 11-12 50m butterfly matapos magrehistro ng bilis na 30.62 segundo.
“It was a fantastic win. This girl has a heart of a champion. She started strong and finished strong against these well-trained Chinese swimmers. We are happy with her output but she’s not done yet. She has two more events coming,” wika ni PSL president Susan Papa.
Pinataob ni Mojdeh ang mas matatanda at mas matatangkad na sina Annabel Cui Amber Lim ng host China na siyang umani ng pilak at tansong medalya, ayon sa pagkakasunod.
Naitala ni Cui ang malayong 32.73 segundo, habang nagsumite si Lim ng 34.13 segundo sa torneong nilahukan ng mahigit 1,200 tankers mula sa lampas sa 30 bansa.
Nagkasya lamang sa ika-limang puwesto si Aklan pride Joanna Amor Cervas na naglista ng 37.23 segundo.
Muling aarangkada ang back-to-back Swimmer of the Year awardee na si Mojdeh sa 100m butterfly at 200m butterfly kasama si Cervas.
Nagdagdag naman ng pilak na medalya si Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge medalist Lucio Cuyong II ng Aklan Swimming Team sa boys’ 14-year 50m breaststroke matapos maglista ng 32.85 segundo.
Nanguna si Christopher Xia na may 32.29 habang pumangatlo si Tommaso Colombo ng may 34.16.
Muling aariba si Cuyong sa 100m breaststroke at 200m breaststroke events.
“They are pumped up and ready to compete for their next events. The results here are the products of our hardwork during our training camp at Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool. They are now reaping the fruits of their labor,” dagdag ni Papa.
Nakasama ni Papa sa delegasyon sina PSL secretary general Maria Susan Benasa at regional director Joan Mojdeh.
“We would like to thank the organizers for inviting us in this competition. It’s a good exposure for our athletes in terms of gauging their skills since this is the biggest swimming event for youth in Asia,” pagpapasalamat ni Papa sa mga nag-organisa ng nasabing swinfest.
