2019 SEAG hosting nakasalalay sa resulta ng election sa Mayo

MANILA, Philippines – Magkakaroon ng direktang epekto ang magiging resulta ng May elections tungkol sa pamamahala ng bansa sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Umaasa si Philippine Olympic Committee vice president Jose Roma­santa na kung sinuman ang mananalo sa presidency ay bibigyan ang sports ng malaking papel sa nation-building.

“If the next President sees the real value in sports as a tool for nation-building then sports will be given more priority,” wika ni Romasanta. “Sports has always been a unifying factor,” dagdag pa nito.

Nagpahayag na si POC chief Jose Cojuangco ng interes sa pamamahala sa 2019 SEA Games matapos tumanggi ang Brunei na gawin ang biennial event.

Ipinaalam na ng POC sa SEA Games Federation ang kanilang intensyon na maging host ng SEA Games sa ikaapat na pagkakataon matapos noong 1981, 1991 at 2005.

“But right now everything is still up in the air,” wika ni Romasanta.

Sa papalapit na national elections, nakatutok ang lahat sa nasabing botohan.

“It will all depend on the elections and the next President. We will need the government guarantee recognizing that the SEA Games will be held here,” ani Romasanta.

Ang iba pang government agencies na dapat tumulong ay ang Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Department of Tourism o Health Department.

Noong 2005, pinamu­nuan ni First Gentleman Jose Arroyo ang hosting ng SEA Games.

Sa paghawak ng POC at Philippine Sports Commission sa drawing board, tiniyak naman ng First Gen­tleman na may sapat na pondo para maging matagumpay ang hosting ng bansa.
