San Beda nagkampeon sa NCAA lawn tennis

MANILA, Philippines – Winakasan ng San Be­da College ang 15-taon na pagkauhaw sa korona ng men’s lawn tennis.

Ito ay matapos walisin ng Red Netters ang Fi­nal Four para angkinin ang kampeonato ng  91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tour­na­ment sa Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Pinangunahan ni Vince Carlo Ramiscal ang ratsa­da ng Red Netters sa pag­papatumba sa Colegio San Juan De Letran Knights, 2-1, sa paggupo sa College of St. Benilde Blazers, 2-1, at sa pagdo­mina sa University of Perpetual Help Systems Dalta Altas, 3-0.

Hinirang si Ramiscal, isang second year Mar­ke­ting student mula sa Panga­sinan, bilang Most Va­­luable Player ng NCAA tournament.

Ang iba pang miyembro ng San Beda ay sina Eric Fernandez, Andre Tuason at ang Cebuano doubles specialist  na si Wishmark “Macoy” Basanal.

Sa juniors play, pinamu­nuan naman ni 2015 Pala­rong Pambansa singles gold medalist at three-time MVP Noel Mariano Damian Jr. ng Zamboanga C­i­ty ang arangkada ng San Beda sa 12-0 record pa­tungo sa pagsikwat sa kanilang pangatlong sunod na NCAA championship.

Ang high school record ay limang sunod sa ilalim ni legendary Bedan coach Henry Diy.

Nakatuwang ni Damian sa pagbulsa sa titulo ay sina Eduardo Bagaforo, Aidyll Ignacio, Dawson Ormoc, Red Directo at Karl Miguel.

Nakamit din ni head coach Jovy Mamawal, igi­niya ang San Beda seniors champion squad sa NCAA championship noong 1999-2000 kasama sina national coach Cris Cuarto, lawyer Julius Arca, banker JR Arias, IT specialists Jan Blando at Dodong Filipinas, tennis mentors Mike Paz, Ric Filipinas at marketing exe­cutives Ali Serquina at Joel Maligat, ang kanyang pang-19 overall NCAA crown.
