19-anyos na rookie naghari sa slam dunk

NEW YORK – Halos inasahan nang mananalo si Stephen Curry ng Golden State Warriors sa Three-Point Shooting Competition, habang nagpasikat naman ang 19-anyos na si Minnesota teenage rookie Zach LaVine para pagharian ang NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Nakakuha si LaVine ng perpektong 100 points mula kina Hall of Fame judges Julius Erving, Walt Frazier, Nate Archibald, Bernard King at Chris Mullin sa opening round kung saan niya pinasabik ang mga fans mula sa kanyang through-the-legs-one-handed reverse dunk.

Sinundan niya ito ng behind-the-back slam mula sa bolang inihagis niya sa hangin.

Sa championship round ay tinalo niya si Victor Ola­dipo ng Orlando Magic buhat sa kanyang dalawang between-the-legs slams para sa kanyang 94 points.

“I’m still on cloud nine. I feel like I’m dreaming,’’ sabi ni LaVine. ‘’Seeing all the dunk contests and people hois­ting the trophy, I just saw myself do it and lived it. So it’s a dream come true. I’m glad my family is here to witness it and go through it.’’

Si LaVine ang naging ikalawang pinakabatang slam dunk champion matapos si Kobe Bryant  na nagkampeon sa edad na 18-anyos noong 1997.

Natalo si Oladipo makaraang mabigong makumpleto ang kanyang sariling between-the-legs dunk sa ibabaw ng kakamping si Elfrid Payton sa una niyang tangka sa fi­nal round.

Sa Three-point Shooting Contest, tinalo ni Curry ang kakamping si Klay Thompson at si Kyrie Irving ng Cleveland Cavaliers sa final round.

Nagtala si Curry ng record score na 27 points para ku­nin ang titulo. Sina Craig Hodges at Jason Kapono ang dating may ha­wak ng record na 25 points.
