INCHEON, South Korea -- Hindi nahawakan ng Gilas Pilipinas ang pitong puntos na kalamangan na naging tulay upang lumasap ng kabiguan sa mga kamay ng Iran, 68-63, sa pagtatapos ng preliminary round sa men’s basketball competition ng 17th Asian Games kahapon sa Hwa­seong Sports Complex.

Hawak ng Nationals ang 60-53 bentahe sa hu­ling 3 minuto ng laro, pe­ro kinapitan sila ng kama­lasan nang malimita sa tat­long puntos kumpara sa 15 ng 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s champions.

Ito ang unang pagkatalo ng Pilipinas sa dalawang laro sa Group E pero aabante pa rin sila sa second round kasama ang Iran na may 2-0 baraha.

Sina Mohammadsamad Nik Khahbahrami at Mah­di Kamrani, gumawa ng 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists at 2 steals, ang pu­matay sa hangarin ng ban­sa na pamunuan ang ka­nilang grupo.

Ang three-pointer ni Kam­rani ang tumapos sa 8-0 bomba ng Iranians pa­ra kunin ang 61-60 kala­mangan.

May 20 puntos si Khahbahrami, habang ang sentrong si Hamed Haddadi ay naghatid din ng 20 puntos bukod pa sa 15 rebounds.

  “When we didn’t have a big guys inside, we couldn’t get the job done. That was the game when Iran got the lead back. It was hard to get it again,” ani Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes.

Tumapos si Paul Lee 11 puntos at may tig-10 sina LA Tenorio at naturalized center Marcus Douthit.
