P-Noy humanga sa laro ng Gilas vs Iran
MANILA, Philippines - Personal na pinanood ni Pangulong Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aguino III ang laro ng Gilas Pilipinas laban sa two-time champions Iran sa finals ng 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships noong Linggo sa Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.
Natalo ang Nationals sa Iranians, 71-85.
Sa kanyang talumpati kahapon sa inagurasyon ng factory ng Japanese company Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc. sa Tanauan City, Batangas ay nabanggit ni Presidente Aquino ang naturang laro ng Pilipinas kontra sa Iran.
“We won the silver position or the first runner-up position. We are not yet blessed with the height neÂcessary to become a dominant power in the world of basketball. We even lost our center (Marcus Douthit) due to an injury. And... (it was) really encouraging, at least on my part, to view our countrymen not giving in to a sense of, perhaps, defeat, by just accepting the fact that these guys are above seven-feet tall and they’re really kind a difficult to beat,†ani Aquino.
Lubos na dinomina ni 7-foot-2 Iranian center Hamed Hadadi ang shaded lane dahil sa pag-upo ng 6’11 na si Douthit, ang naturalized center ng Pilipinas, bunga ng right knee injury.
Bagamat dehado sa height, nagpilit pa ring makadikit ang Nationals.
“But up to the last few seconds, they never gave up. They showed the resÂpect that was earned by their play in previous games. They were not treated as an unworthy opponent by our opponents. So give the Filipino the right environment and you will be surprised at what he will deliver,†wika ng Pangulo.
Nagbiro rin ang Presidente na posibleng siya ang naging malas sa kabiguan ng Nationals.
