MANILA, Philippines - Sa kanyang unang pagsabak bilang bagong head coach ng Blue Eagles, hindi nangako si Bo Perasol na maigigiya niya ang Ateneo sa pang anim na sunod na UAAP championship.

Sa press conference para sa 76th UAAP season sa MOA Arena sa Pasay City, sinabi ni Perasol na maski ang Ateneo ay hindi inaasahang magdodomina ang Blue Eagles.

“As far as the wellness of my team is concerned, I think that if we can be a hundred percent healthy this season I think that we can defend our crown with so much strength,” ani Perasol.

Wala na sa Ateneo sina seven-footer Greg Slaughter, 6’4 Nico Salva at 6’6 Justine Chua.

Si Perasol ang sumalo sa naiwang posisyon ni Norman Black na iniluklok bilang kapalit ni Chot Reyes sa Talk ‘N Text sa PBA.

Sa sinasabing paghina ng Blue Eagles, ang Bulldogs ng National University at ang Red Warriors ng University of the East ang tumatayong paborito sa torneo na magbubukas sa Hunyo 29 sa MOA Arena sa Pasay City.

Ang NU ang nagkam­peon sa Fr. Martin’s Cup, habang ang UE ang nag­hari sa Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

“We were humbled and grateful for getting that tag as a team to beat,” ani Bulldogs’ mentor Eric Alta­mirano. “But like what I’ve told the boys, we have to embrace it. If there is a year that we can do it (win the title), this is the year.”

Ayaw naman tanggapin ni coach Boysie Zamar na isa sila sa mga paborito.

“But the bottom line is, in reality, pang seventh place lang ‘yung UE last season. You have to go back to rea­lity, and that is the UAAP,” wika ni Zamar.
