Nishioka nagretiro isang buwan matapos matalo kay Donaire

TOKYO - Tuluyan nang nag­retiro si dating World Bo­xing Council super bantamweight champion Toshiaki ‘Speed King’ Nishioka.

Inihayag ni Nishioka ang kanyang pagreretiro ha­los isang buwan matapos siyang pigilin ni unified world super bantamweight king Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire, Jr. sa Home De­pot Center sa Carson, Ca­lifornia.

“I have done what I should do. I am fully satisfied with my boxing career,” wi­ka ng 36-anyos na Japanese superstar sa isang news conference kahapon sa Tokyo.

“I have experienced excitement many times through 18 years as a pro bo­xer,” dagdag pa nito na may 39-5-3 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 24 knockouts.

Unang nakita sa professional boxing si Nishioka noong 1994 at hinirang na WBC super bantamweight champion noong 2008.

Matapos ang ma­ta­gumpay na pagdedepensa sa kanyang korona sa pang pi­tong sunod na pagkaka­taon, kinilala siya bilang “Emeritus Champion” ng WBC division noong Marso 15.

Matapos ito ay bina­kante niya ang naturang WBC title at inangkin naman ni Mexican Abner Mares.

Sa kanilang super bantamweight title unification fight noong Oktubre 13, ti­nalo ni Donaire, ang kasalu­kuyang may su­ot ng IBF at WBO titles, si Nishioka sa ninth round.
