Freeman, Williams kinuha uli ng San Miguel para palakasin ang kampanya sa ABL tourney

MANILA, Philippines - Para mapalakas ang kanilang tsansa sa korona sa ASEAN Basketball League sa Enero ng 2013, muling kinuha ng San Miguel Beermen sina imports Gabe Freeman at Brian Williams.

Matatandaang natalo ang Beermen sa nagkampeong Indonesia Warriors sa best-of-three championship series ng 2012 ABL Finals.

Hinugot rin ng SMB ni coach Bobby Parks, Sr. sina dating PBA MVP Asi Taulava at Erik Menk para makatuwang nina ABL MVP Leo Avenido, Chris Banchero at Chris Luanzon.

Nasa koponan na rin sina Rob Labagala, Paulo Hu-balde, JR Cawaling, RJ Rizada, Val Acuna, at Hans Thiele, habang may dalawa pang puwesto na natitira, ayon kay San Miguel Corp. sports director Noli Eala.

Ang ilan sa mga nagta-tryout sa Beermen ay sina Fil-Swiss Michael Andre Burtscher, Bryan Faundo, Khasim Mirza at veteran Norman Gonzalez.

“First day of practice has arrived. Three months to get team chemistry down and learn coach Bobby Parks’ sys­tem. Let’s do this,” sabi ni Taulava bago buksan ng Beermen ang kanilang training camp sa HOOPS Center sa Shaw Boulevard kahapon.

Magbabalik si Freeman sa prangkisa kung saan niya ito tinulungang makakuha ng dalawang PBA titles noong 2009-10.

Pinangunahan ni Freeman ang Phl Patriots sa pagkopo sa ABL title sa inaugural season at sa isang runner-up finish sa ikalawang season, habang malaki ang naitulong ni Williams sa semifinals stint ng Westport Malaysia Dragons sa ikatlong season.

“Both Brian and Gabe bring power, poise, and explosive­ness to the team. Both are proven winners and can play multiple roles for the Beermen,” ani Noli Eala, sports director ng San Miguel Corp.
